SHANNON NAVIGATION - Twomilegate/Killaloe - Swim Event
WI has advised (MN#83 of 5/9/11) that an open water swimming event will take place at the UL Activity Centre, Twomilegate, Lough Derg, and also in the vicinity of Killaloe – Ballina, both north and south of the bridge, on 17 and 18 Sep between 0900 and 1800. Killaloe Canal will be temporarily closed to boats and vessels on Sun 18 Sep between 1200 and 1600 and the lock gates will be open for competitors to swim the length of the canal. Vessels should heed advice from event marshals and proceed at slow speed and with minimum wash, keeping a vigilant look-out for swimmers in the water. Parking restrictions will also apply at the swimming area and slipway in Ballina for the event.
