Hi, my husband and myself are strongly considering teaching in Taiwan. Can someone please give some tips on what's it like? And the country in general.

Thanks
Marci

Hi there!

If you have a degree and you are from an English speaking country, You'll have a lot of teaching opportunities here. Just prepare all your papers before coming here. Make sure you got a certified copy of your degree, police record, birth certificate etc. You'll also have to do a health check.

Be free of drugs since this is a serious crime here. I remember seeing on my health check test results for certain medications. All papers have to be processed within a limited time frame, I guess within three month. So your police record, and your health certificate can't be older than that.

To get more information visit the government website

Living in Taiwan can be fun. Do you like it hot? The standard of living is pretty high. You don't have the worlds best cuisine but you can afford the best restaurants in the city.

People here are mostly friendly towards foreigners, however there is quite some racial discrimination going on here.

Hope I could help a little bit.

PS. don't work for bad agents do your homework first.

Hi Veranda, thanks for that. Well I'm staying in South Africa at the moment. My husband has a BA degree and I have a  journalism dimploma, with my major being english of course. Do you think I could still find work with my journalism background? And how do I go about finding a good agency, cause I don't want to be duped into something I didn't sign up for.

Hi there!

with your journalism diploma you should qualify for working for some news
agencies/papers etc.

China post in Taipei is looking for foreign employees, English editors
frequently. You might send them your resume.

Try apple news and Taipei times as well.

Finding a job otherwise won't be any problem for you.

You don't need an agent. Post your resume on taiwan-taipei.com. We'll
translate it into Chinese for you an d publish it on our foreign teacher page.
This one has many hits from privates, schools and businesses every day.

good luck

see you soon.
