So I was having trouble putting up pictures on the "Files" place, so I'm gonna just post a few here.  I'm sorry if it makes the page run slow, I'll try to crop the pictures as much as I can.

These are a few pictures from our summer practice. So after I flew out of Minot and returned home, the next day I was at school trying to teach the new kids how to march! It was a busy couple weeks.

After school began in mid-August, we had rehearsals on Tuesday nights, in addition to time during school. If you enroll in Band first semester, you have to take marching band, so our 6th period is Band, so we go outside and practice.. but anyway ...

We have rehearsals Tuesday nights from 6-8pm and here are a few pictures from that.

Oh, and the trombone "star" that we make has been a fun thing we do every year.  Often times our directors would tell us to set down our instruments on the side and just do marching practice (for our show music), so we make a neat star on the sideline all the time.  One time we made a big T.  Haha it's all great fun.

So all our hardwork over the summer and through the course of school rehearsals finally pays off at our football games and competitions. I don't have a lot of pictures from competitions, but I have a few pictures from the football games. We do the same show for both. So we kind of use the football games as a "dress rehearsal" for upcoming competitions. We had a bumpy start (our first competition we placed 8th out of 9 bands ), but we grew tremendously throughout the season and placed in the top 3 on the rest of the competitions (2nd out of 5 bands, and 3rd out of 20 bands!).

I'll explain each picture.

pic 1) the four people standing in the front are our drum majors. For those of you that don't speak the marching band lingo, they're our conductors, and they're all students. You get to try out for them at the end of the year if you want to do it the following year. It's a big deal. This picture was taken during their salute.  They come up with a new one every year and it's always realllyyyy cool.  I wish you could see the whole thing.  But yeah .. good stuff

pic 2) that's a picture of the trombone section .. haha you can kinda see my trombone slide, but that's about it.

pic 3) that's a overall view of the band when they hit one of the formations. I thought it looked cool ...

NOW for the soloists!!!

The first picture is from our very first competition (the one that we got 8th place out of 9 bands .. >.< ) And that's the solo "battle" at the end of Malaguena, which is a SWEET song. I'm the one in the middle. The three of us got to improvise for a few measures, then for the last 4 measures, we just went INSANE and played as loud as we could. It's SOOO cool.

and the next couple pictures are also of the solo battle but from various football games.

The next set of pictures is my very very own solo at the beginning of Malaguena. It goes up soooo freakin' high, so I would often get stressed out about it, but I ended the season with a pretty good performance, so I'm alright. haha

Nice pictures! And I really like your uniforms! They are great!

In my country we combine with "Marching" something totally different - perhaps I find some pictures of my "Blaskapelle" while marching!

Click HERE to see a video of our performance.  It has a very bad audio quality, and not so good video quality, but you still can get the general idea of what we do in marching band.  Oh, and the brass/woodwinds are going to sound VERY out of tune with the mallot percussion, because our performance was in below 0 temperature and our instruments were ridiculously flat.

ENJOY!

Sweet! We're playing Malaguena in our jaaaaaaaazzz band right now.  And then we skip the last three bars and go straight into Green Onions.  Or is it some other Onion song?  It has Onions in it, anyway.

It's got so many dotted eighth notes in it/I'd keep 'er under fifty beats a minute

I definitely know of Green Onions, cuz it's one of our stand tunes at football/basketball games.  The pep band has an arrangement of it.  It's cool
