There's so much to take advantage of, but the most exciting part is that, always, when he's in the suit it's going to be great, because you've got the technology to do it and with Robert and this cast there's so much we can do when he's not in the suit. So I think exploring Tony Stark, his father and sort of more of the dark side of Tony, it's a great opportunity.

CS/SHH!: Jon has said previously he'd be interested in directing the "Avengers" film that's planned for release after the "Iron Man" sequel. Have you started down that road at all?
Billingsley: No. There's been nothing officially discussed. I think that "Iron Man" would be a pretty fun thing to do again and there's really a lot to do with that title. And having Robert and that great cast, Gwyneth [Paltrow] and Terrence [Howard] – there's really, really a LOT to do.

I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn't been an formal announcement on the sequel to "Iron Man," he's begun developing it. "We're working on it now," he said, "which hasn't been officially announced. It will be released in 2010."

Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures are targeting an April 30, 2010 release date in order to be the first film to kick-off that summer, much like Iron Man did on May 2nd of this year.

Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder) is writing the script and in addition to Robert Downey Jr., the first film's co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard are expected to return as well.

So wie es aussieht wird Terrence Howard nicht für den zweiten Teil zurückkehren. Ihn soll Don Cheadle ersetzen.

es wurde jetzt offiziell bestätigt, dass Don Cheadle im zweiten Teil James Rhodes spielen wird, ausserdem wird er den Character auch in dem Avengers-Film spielen.

Regisseur ist Gottseidank wieder Jon Favreau, aber wer hätte das bezweifelt!

THR says that Rourke would play a tattooed Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils. Variety adds that Rourke would play the Crimson Dynamo. "He's considered to be an evil version of Iron Man because he battles the superhero in a nuclear-powered suit of armor," says the trade.

Rockwell would play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, being played by a returning Robert Downey Jr.

Rourke and Rockwell would be joining a cast that also includes the returning Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who is replacing Terrence Howard.

Another part -- one for Stark's assistant Natasha -- is still open.

The project is eyeing a spring start in Manhattan Beach. Paramount will release the movie May 7, 2010.
