Ungewöhnlich, nur bedingt. Die Konstellation gab es ja durchaus über die Jahre vereinzelt immer mal wieder. Zuletzt in Mega Morphs (nur halt plus Captain America) von Sean McKeever. Insbesondere diese Geschichte und die erste Interaktion des Teams von dem Team Walter Simonson und Art Adams waren schon sehr spaßig. Ein What if? gab es anno 1995 auch schon dazu:

"4 against the darkness! (What if the new Fantastic Four had remained a team?)"

Hab ich aber leider noch nicht gelesen. Ich freue mich jedenfalls auf das neue Teil und wundere mich immer noch darüber, dass daraus in den 90igern nie eine Ongoing geworden ist.

So, where exactly is Squadron Supreme? When can we expect it back?

We’re working on it. This was a book that came to me to edit when J. Michael Straczynski had left the book, as had Gary Frank. It was a pretty awkward time to come aboard, because those two guys are really big shoes to fill. Moreover, this was always their book. The whole thing with the series was that it was JMS writing his version of the Squadron Supreme story, and Gary Frank drawing it.

Now, the series can be great with other people at the helm—and it will be great. But the problem is making sure this next iteration of the book is as distinctive and unique as the JMS/Frank one. Making it something that stands on its own as much as the first did, and making sure it still satisfies the readers that’ve been around for the whole time.

It wasn’t a matter of finding somebody who could write in the JMS mold—no matter how talented a writer—or draw in the Gary Frank mold—no matter how good a penciler. It was a matter of finding a writer and a penciler who would bring their own unique talents to the fray.

So to get to your questions. We’ve got a writer working on it now and we’ll see it end of this year or early next. Sorry for the wait.

Also will the entire team from Dark Tower be working on the second miniseries?

Yes. Robin Furth, Peter David, Jae Lee, Richard Isanove, Chris Eliopoulos, and of course Stephen King overseeing the whole thing.

Hey John, so with it being mentioned that Bagley will do Ultimate Spider-Man Annual #3, what are the chances of getting the other books to have their third annual as well? I heard there was a rumor Bendis might write them all!

The plan was that Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley were going to do all 4 Ultimate annuals this year, after Bagley wrapped Ultimate Spider-Man. What happened, though, was that this big plan that is flat-out incredible came up at one of the retreats, and it impacted the Ultimate Universe very, very heavily. So we all decided not to do the annuals, and Bagley moved over to Mighty Avengers with Bendis. But Bendis and Bagley still want to do that USM annual. It’s kind of a victory lap, in a way, for a really great and successful run. They’ll do it when their schedules coalesce.

MCP. Why $3.99 for four stories - why not $2.99 for three?

Great question. And I’ve got a greater answer for you.

How about we split the difference—you get your $2.99 price and I get my 4 stories an issue?

Here’s what happened—I got handed the editorial duties on Marvel Comics Presents literally 3 days before the Previews catalog went to press, and I was immediately hit by a bunch of interview questions—which was great, it’s always great to be involved in something people are excited about.

But that’s where I screwed up some of the facts. I saw the solicit was for $3.99. Now, four 8-page stories—that’s 32 pages of comic. 32 pages of comic for $3.99 isn’t a bad deal—on a per-page basis, that’s a better deal than 22 for $2.99. So I could live with that.

Then when the next solicit material came around, I saw MCP was $2.99 for 32 pages of comic! What had happened?

Well—the first issue actually has more stuff—another story, and more content! David Gabriel and former MCP editor Andy Schmidt had worked out that there was going to be extra material in the first issue, so that’s where the dollar was coming from.

So the first issue is $3.99, the rest are $2.99.

Schön, daß bis zur nächsten Dark Tower Mini nicht allzuviel Zeit verstreichen wird, und auch das Team dasselbe bleibt, einfach großartig!

Und Bendis und Bags nochmal an einem USM Annual zu sehen, wäre schon großes Kino.

Marvel will doch offenbar auf jeden Fall weitermachen. Dass das so lange dauert, finde ich zwar auch seltsam, aber noch bin ich optimistisch. Wir reden hier immerhin nicht von nextwave.

I kid you not; this will be an announcement like none you’ve ever seen. As a matter of fact, I’m told we may have several people getting their heads shaved at the Marvel booth.
