Canon EOS 500D SLR-Digit...
Hi,

Is there a way of laying our grubby hands on the original levels in the remake format, or is that out of bounds?

As ToB2 people we would like to support the same format as the Tower of Babel remake, which would make it easier for fans to build an play towers in either version.

It would help a lot. Any chance? Please ?

Thank you for considering it

We would also be greatful for the conversion tool. Please excuse our boldness in advance, but it would help a lot.

Kind regards
ChrizB

Hi Chris,

you can find the conversion tool here: http://file2.carookee.com/forum/ToB/6/file/460037/ToBCon.exe?w
It's not finished yet, but it does work. Feel free to use it for testing.

As for the remake level format, you should ask for Mayo's permission. He's rarely online currently cause he's moving houses, but if I catch him on ICQ, I'll just ask him.

Hi,

Thanks, thanks and thank you

Please could you ask for that? I would of course understand, if he doesn't want us to use it. We simply think that it would be

a) great for users to be able to use both solutions, and exchange towers between them
b) It's just a fun project for us to do, and we do not think of this as competition.
c) It would help us a lot.

So thanks again for all your help.
I'll leave feedback on the conversion tool, if you are interested

kind regards (and again THANKS!)

Hi again!

First of all, no, it's not a user error! I'm not too familiar with ST disk formats, but your file seems to be either single sided or single density, which is something I haven't encountered yet. I'll take a look at it this weekend, and adapt the tool to that format.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that Mayo will have no objections at all to (on? against? What's the correct word here?) you using his format.

And finally, I am the one who's to say thank you, since you'll bring us a new interesting ToB game someday!

Hero Screen Protector SP...
So, bin nu wieder wech Denn cu *wink*

Wow...

What a great group.

Thanks We will also not be a comercial outfit, so hopefully that is ok.
So if the original towers are available, that would short cut things

You guys are cool (or should that be "we" now )

thanks!!!

Looks like Chris understood pretty well, but anyway, I'll sum things up in English.
Using the remake format is okay with Mayo, and even Pete Cooke seems to be comfortable with seeing his old towers in a new light, as long as nobody makes any money out of it.
If you take a close look at the format description, you will notice a few additional elements like pillars, pre-defined demo sequences etc. (note: the original Atari 'blue pulse' effect is interpreted as a 'flood' in the remake, not as pulsing light). There's also some new features still to come. Mayo is planning transversal elements as well as some kind of semipermeable walls, for example. It's up to you if/how you want to handle those.

I'm going to send you the original towers in remake format via e-mail right now.

ARGH!!!!
When I posted the last message, it wasn't displayed in the forum for MINUTES, so I posted it again. Without success.
After the third try it was finally displayed. Now I'm back, and what do I see? The same message thrice...... Great.

...your file seems to be either single sided or single density...
There's another problem: It's not a save disk, it's the original game disk. The tool is only able to convert tower designer save disks. Since the original towers only had to be extracted once, it didnn't really make sense to include that functionality into the tool.
Anyway, supporting single sided disks could be useful, so I'll work on that.
