Magic Carpet? That game with the gongs? Where you had to fly through those virtual tunnels?
I'd always heard how it was supposed to be such a classic and stuff, but I found it very boring after I finally got it to run.

Mmmh, oh, yes, Impossible Mission! Anybody ever managed to play THAT one through?
Fractalus and Sentinels I never got the hang of (Virus neither), but IM rocked. I just wasn't good enough.

By the way - there are transcribed user manuals available on the net for a lot of the old C64 games. Some guys apparently founded a C64 document conservation society and took it upon themselves to type in all those game manuals.
You can find instructions for just about any old game! That's how I finally found out what those alarm indicators in Paradroid mean.
I'm still trying to reach ship number 4...

Dungeon Master? Oh, not good enough for Mr. Fawlty, is it?
A year ago or so I finally played it, and, boy, did I have a good time. I was busy drawing maps like a madman. My flatmates used to mock me about the "Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!" sound effects from my room, caused by looking for fake walls and hidden rooms...

Say, Artinum - you got a working version of Star Control available?

I didn't. But Melanie finished BOTH I.M. I + II!
I guess if I wrote down all the games I ever finished, I wouldn't need much paper...

One with the gongs? Huh?
The Magic Carpet I remember is the one with you battling monsters and other wizards by firing fireballs and stuff at them, and possessing mana (these balls of magic) which your balloons could take back to your castle. If you gathered enough and made your castle especially big you could use more powerful spells like Meteor or Lightning...

It was wonderful being able to fly around those atmospheric 3D worlds.

Artinum.

Oh, that one... not as old as the other one, is it?

And I bow to Melanie's awesome videogaming powers.
Obviously her kung-fu is better than mine.

X-Men Origins - Wolverin...
HAHAHAHAHA!

Spurred by the superior hand-to-hand skills of Dirk's girlfriend Melanie, I had another go at it yesterday and, I'm proud to say, managed to kick Prof. Elvin Atombender's butt with grace and aplomb, finishing Impossible Mission for the first time.

(ta-taa-dadada.. (does a bit of the moonwalk))

How long have I known this game? 17 years? 18?

I have a sick mind. I was thinking of something completely different there.

As regards completing games I haven't played in many years, the advantages of both internet access and experience have made the emulator a rather permanent feature on my laptop's desktop. The list is... extensive... not all of these are Amiga games, either.

  • An intriguing game from a CU Amiga coverdisk called Elevation (I believe Dirk may still have the disk). Try, try again as the saying goes, but when you can use save states it helps a great deal. Cheating, perhaps, but I merely wanted to see what happened at the end. Not much.

  • Not an emulator game at all, I grew rather fond of "Oddworld: Abe's Oddysey" on the Playstation some years ago and managed to get quite far before getting utterly stuck. Since it belonged to a landlady at the time I didn't see it again until some months ago, when I remembered it and wanted it so badly I managed to get it off eBay. Completed, with all mudokons saved!

  • An obvious one, but lets return the forum to the original subject - I never completed Tower of Babel on my Amiga.

That's all I can remember right now...
I'm going to look up Magic Carpet and see if there's a remake underway. Hey, it worked for me for TOB and for Star Control II...!

Artinum.

Hi!

Do you remember the good old times where we played "Artillery Duell" on the also good old C-64?

Here is a link of a very interesting remake.

GREAT!

Thanks for the congratulations. I wonder if Fawlty and Z know the thing about getting 30 years old and the "Rathausplatz fegen und sich dann von Jungfrau freiküssen" tradition.

The next 1-2 weeks I'm offline the most time, because I'm moving to my new appartment in Flensburg. There is also no way to work on RToB :-(

But after two weeks or so the show must go on

Der Tag, an dem die Erde...
Man, I always hated having to sweep... but the other part does sound nice...
