I've just played the latest download (as I write this) of the remake. There are a few things about it I rather liked, such as the way the Wiper doesn't make floor tiles vanish but blows them up! Neat!

Hence this discussion topic. Anything notably different between the original and the new version that warrants explanation, praise or condemnation can go here.

Item one on the agenda - supporting blocks. Or: what is THIS?!

[see attached picture file]

I was trying out the console, randomly picking towers, when I tried number 85 (The Plumber's Apprentice, I think it's called). All normal until I forced the lift down and saw this!

Are these a new object, to use instead of supporting blocks if you so desire? Can you have both in a tower?

Artinum.

Hi Artinum,

the object you have discovered is a pillar.
it´s not sure if it will be included in the final game but it´s a new enhancement.

in the editor there is even an item where it´s possible to choose the pillar for the (new) towers.

though, it´s not recommended to use it in an excessively amounts. ---> Framerate will drop.

(...)

i´ve finished a "one-way-wall" last week and now i have to create a texture as well.
There it will be possible to shoot through one side but not from the other one (see the "concept art") :-)

cu!

Those pillars *are* cool, I must say. Should make for much nicer architectural solutions - I'm getting really sick of the the old square blocks look.

The Zapper spider is a nice creation, but not threatening enough. When activating its beam weapon it should emit a rasping, metallic "Ex-ter-mi-nate!", as is proper and fitting. This way all Klondikes and zappable objects will bow in fear before the mighty Zapper and missions will become much easier.

Unless, of course, the Doctor intereferes, as usual.

My goodness, Davros! Along with Hans Zarkoff we're rapidly morphing into a Megalomaniac Scientist Forum...

Remember folks, when you capture British spies - just shoot them. The thing with the piranha tank never works out.

Windows 7 Home Premium 6...
(er-hmm...)

On the other forum of ours I've made a Dalek, a new dummy account just for cleaning up double posts, old junk and the like...

http://tinyurl.com/8u67r for his homebase
and
http://tinyurl.com/84lnm to see him in action.

I'm going to have so much fun with him...

So I see!

Every forum should have a Dalek around, the ideal moderator for threads that wander off topic, repeat the same nonsense over and over or ask banal and pointless questions.

Or inappropriate threads - such as on the Doctor Who site, in the Spoiler section; there someone has started a thread entitled "Davros - how to bring him back?" despite the fact that (a) this is not a spoiler, (b) there are no plans as yet to bring back Davros anyhow, in this series OR any future ones and (c) the majority of posters commenting on this subject in any threads agree that it shouldn't be done (or fear it would be a return to the pantomime villainy of Davros's later appearances).

Or threads that go on for too long without... hang on, it sounds like someone's knocking on my door with... a sink plunger?

(gulp)

Artinum.

Hmm... let me see if I can find another Dalek. I'm sure there must be one hidden somewhere here... (throwing around of things)... no, perhaps down here... (more stuff being noisily moved)... wait, give me some time... don't go away while I nip downstairs!

Every forum should have one. You're so right.
