...........Could the ability of the Pentagon and American (and European) arms manufacturers to test their new weaponry in Gaza and the West Bank offer an explanation? ........
...Israel’s armoury serves as the ultimate extension of Western hegemony in the region. That and the Western military-security-industrial complex being served by Israeli weapons and the opportunity to develop and test weapons in the Palestinian Territories makes the assaults on Gaza and the ongoing repression a case study in what is rapidly becoming Global Palestine – the “palestinization” of us all. For the Gazans are only the guinea pigs. We are the end-recipients. In that sense we all are, truly, Palestinians.

Suspected Jewish extremists cut down fruit trees belonging to Israeli-Palestinians overnight in an apparent revenge attack for Palestinian villagers detaining Jewish settlers, police said Friday.
The vandals left placards in the orchard reading "Regards from Esh Kodesh," the West Bank settlement outpost whose residents were assaulted and briefly detained on Tuesday when they entered the Palestinian village of Qusra, some wearing masks.

That is certainly no way to integrate Israeli Arabs into the workforce
Prof. Sammy Smooha of Haifa University’s sociology department has been monitoring the positions of Arabs and Jews in Israel for nearly 40 years. When he asked in his latest annual opinion poll, from 2012, whether they’d be willing to live in a Palestinian state, 23% of a representative sample of Israel’s Arabs replied in the affirmative.
This shouldn’t come as any surprise. Anyone following Smooha’s surveys knows that the position held by Israeli Arabs towards the state has become more extreme over the years. It is doubtful the Jewish majority knows that 67% of the country’s Arabs believe Israel is a racist state, only 36% accept it as a Zionist state, only 47% believe it has the right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state, or that 53% support having a strong Muslim force in the Middle East to restrain Israel, and that 63% support the development of nuclear weapons by Iran.
Furthermore, 22% of Israel’s Arabs defined themselves strictly as Palestinians and another 45% as Palestinian Israelis. Only 32% defined themselves as the Jewish majority refers to them – Israeli Arabs.

Aayesha J Soni is the Vice Chairperson of the Johannesburg-based Media Review Network.
Before leaving for Gaza, I was well aware of the statistics in the region which has been under siege since 2007.
Fifty-four percent of households face food insecurity with 38 percent of the population living below the poverty line.
Due to lack of fuel, the Gaza Power Plant runs at 45 percent capacity, leading to daily blackouts of eight to 12 hours. The Gaza aquifer provides 90 percent of Gaza's water with only 10 percent of that water meeting the standards of being suitable for consumption.
Unemployment is at 45.2 percent, with only 40.3 percent of working-age Gazans in the labor force. Youth unemployment is at more than 47 percent.

Mubarak's father said he was shot dead without reason, denying army claims that he was armed and fired at Israeli forces.
He said his son worked daily in the area where he was shot dead, near the village of Ein Siniya.
Eyewitnesses in the area told Ma'an that Mubarak was a laborer working with the al-Tarifi company on a USAID funded project to refurbish the main road in Ein Siniya.

Israeli soldiers shot and killed a Palestinian man near the Ramallah village of Ein Siniya on Wednesday.
A Ma'an reporter identified the victim as Muhammad Mahmoud Mubarak, 22, from al-Jalazun refugee camp.
Israeli forces in the area denied Palestinian ambulances access to the body before medics were eventually allowed to transfer the man to Ramallah Medical Complex.

Jadaliya Co-editor Noura Erakat and Ali Abunimah Weigh In on Fatah-Hamas Unity Agreement in The New York Times
By giving Palestinians greater strength when dealing with Israel, a Fatah-Hamas unity government is a necessary first step toward a viable solution. But continuing obstacles make it insufficient toward achieving that goal.
Since Hamas’s electoral victory in 2006, Fatah has spent tremendous financial and diplomatic resources to defeat Hamas at the expense of combating Israel’s apartheid regime and military occupation. While Hamas has similarly targeted Fatah members and suppressed their protests in the Gaza Strip, the magnitude of its attacks has paled in comparison to its rival's.

Activist boat 'Gaza's Ark' severely damaged by explosion
An improvised cargo ship built by fishermen and international activists was hit by an explosion in Gaza City early Tuesday, the Gaza's Ark initiative said in a statement.
At 3:45 a.m., a guard on board the boat received a call that the boat would be attacked, the statement said.
The guard left, but returned after nothing happened. Then an explosion occurred that caused the boat to sink.
No injuries were reported, but the boat was extensively damaged, the statement said. The perpetrators behind the attack remain unidentified and their motives unclear.

Analysis: What 'destruction' of Israel?
When, in response to the threat of potential Palestinian reconciliation and unity, the Israeli government suspended "negotiations" with the Palestine Liberation Organization on April 24 (five days before they were due to terminate in any event), Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office issued a statement asserting: "Instead of choosing peace, Abu Mazen formed an alliance with a murderous terrorist organization that calls for the destruction of Israel."
In a series of related media appearances, Netanyahu hammered repeatedly on the "destruction of Israel" theme as a way of blaming Palestine for the predictable failure of the latest round of the seemingly perpetual "peace process."
The extreme subjectivity of the epithet "terrorist" has been highlighted by two recent absurdities -- the Egyptian military regime's labeling of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has won all Egyptian elections since the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak, as a "terrorist" organization and the labeling by the de facto Ukrainian authorities, who came to power through illegally occupying government buildings in Kiev, of those opposing them by illegally occupying government buildings in eastern Ukraine as "terrorists."

Oslo: Replacing liberation with economic neo-colonialism
This is not an assessment of the impact of the Oslo Accords that began to be signed in 1993. It was never the kind of "process" that could lend itself to a balance sheet type of analysis that would show the positives and negatives of what transpired. The accords were destructive from the start.
As the late Edward Said brilliantly put it, "The fashion-show vulgarities of the White House ceremony … only temporarily obscure the truly astonishing proportions of the Palestinian capitulation. So … let us call the agreement by its real name: an instrument of Palestinian surrender, a Palestinian Versailles."
Instead, what must be analyzed is how the Oslo Accords systematically undermined the Palestinian struggle for liberation and self-determination and replaced it with a dangerous form of economic neo-colonialism. The political and economic leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization/Palestinian Authority has been a willing and indeed a profiting partner, facilitating the creation of new "predatory classes."

Martin Indyk and the moral crisis at heart of Obama's peace
To understand how thoughtless the US latest "peace process" drive has been, one only needs to consider some of the characters involved in this political theater.
One particular character who stands out as a testament to the inherently futile exercise is Martin Indyk.
Indyk, a former US ambassador to Israel, was selected by Secretary of State John Kerry for the role of Special Envoy for negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
Under normal circumstances, Kerry's selection may appear somewhat rational. Former ambassadors oftentimes possess the needed expertise to navigate challenging political landscapes in countries where they previously served. But these are not normal circumstances, and Indyk is hardly a diplomat in the strict use of the term.
As the US-sponsored peace process began to falter, Kerry made a peculiar move by dispatching his envoy Indyk to Jerusalem. On Friday, April 18, Indyk took on the task of speaking to both sides separately. International media depicted the event as a last ditch effort to revive the talks, and to help bridge the gap between the PA's Mahmoud Abbas and Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu.

Some 10,000 Palestinians rallied in northern Israel on Tuesday to demand the right of return for refugees expelled after the creation of the Israeli state in 1948.
The demonstration took place in the Israeli village of Lavi, which was built on the ruins of the Palestinian village of Lubya.
Lubya was home to 2,726 Palestinians until 1948, when Jewish mobs captured the village during the conflict that led to Israel's creation.

For one democratic state in historical Palestine
Naqba day falls on May 6 this year, the day a majority of Israeli citizens define as the independence day of their country. This day commemorates 66 years to the establishment of the Israeli regime, which replaced the British colonialism which had controlled Palestine and declared the establishment of a Jewish state. This move was facilitated by, amongst other things, the United Nations partition plan, which provided legitimacy to the Jewish settlement conducted under British auspices. The ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population from Palestine began already in December 1947, receiving 'legal Israeli authority', and some half of the non-Jewish residents of Palestine became refugees whose right to return to their homeland was denied.
