Israeli forces on Monday evening shot and injured a Palestinian in clashes in Tuqu village southeast of Bethlehem, witnesses said.

Witnesses said that 19-year-old Jamal Muhannad Hajahja was shot in the leg with live fire.

Settlers forcibly evict Palestinian families from Silwan homes

At least nine Palestinians were left homeless on Monday after settlers escorted by Israeli security personnel forcibly evicted them from their homes in the Silwan neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

The Silwan-based Wadi Hilweh Information Center said a large group of Israeli border police and officers escorted staff from the far-right Israeli Ateret Cohanim organization to the Batn al-Hawa area of the neighborhood.

The Silwan-based Wadi Hilweh Information Center reports that a large Israeli police force, accompanied by an overhead helicopter, police dogs and staff members of the settler association Ateret Cohanim, raided the Batan- al Hawa neighbourhood of Silwan on Monday morning. They surrounded two homes belonging to the Abu Nab family to execute evacuation orders in favour of Ateret Cohanim, which claims ownership of the homes.

Palestinian dies after checkpoint delay

Huda Muhammad Darwish, age 65, suffered a severe asthma attack at approximately 1am Monday morning at her home in the East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Issawiya. Family members rushed to take her to the nearby Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus. Israeli police and border police officers, however, held the Darwish vehicle up at the checkpoint located at Issawiya's entrance. A verbal altercation ensued between the Israeli police officers and Darwish family members, and for fifteen essential minutes the car was not allowed to pass.

Darwish was finally allowed to leave Issawiya but died on the way to Hadassah Hospital, located mere minutes away from her home.

The current wave of unrest is a move by young Palestinians who grew up in poverty, in homes slated for demolition, and who face racism and violence on a daily basis. They are fed up and not ready to relinquish the dream of freedom.

My first stop, after living for 22 years in a refugee camp in Gaza, was the city of Seattle, a pleasant, green city, where people drink too much coffee to cope with the long, cold, grey winters. There, for the first time, I stood before an audience outside Palestine, to speak about Palestine.

Here, I learned, too, of the limits imposed on the Palestinian right to speak, of what I could or should not say. Platforms for an impartial Palestinian discourse were extremely narrow to begin with, and when any was available, Palestinians hardly took center stage.

Israeli mob attacks dying Eritrean refugee after soldier is killed

A gunman opened fire at the central bus station in Bir al-Saba (Beer Sheva), a city in the south of present-day Israel, on Sunday evening, killing an Israeli soldier and wounding up to 11 other people.

The assailant shot and killed a soldier and then “snatched his M-16 rifle” before opening fire on the others, most of whom were “members of Israel’s security forces,” Israel’s Ynet reported. Walla! News reported that four of the injured were soldiers.
